The UK Institute of Structural Engineers (IStructE) published an enlightening article about the engineering aspects of Ireland’s National Convention Centre (NCC). BLP were appointed as specialist geotechnical consulting engineers for this unique PPP project.
The work undertaken by BLP mainly comprised the design of all permanent foundation piles for both the NCC and the adjoining 20-storey hotel including the design of various temporary works and a 900mm diameter secant pile wall with soil anchors. BLP also provided an extensive appraisal of the existing Royal Canal wall located adjacent to the NCC, which included strengthening the existing canal wall with tie-back anchors.
